Welcome to Sensational Sycamore Class!

In Sycamore class we love learning and enjoy challenging ourselves. We want to become outstanding learners so we know how important it is to try challenging work, not give up

The Sycamore team are Mrs Thompson the class teacher, Miss Hullock, Mr Kaye and Mrs. Gales who help support our learning.

 

In Year 1 we are now becoming independent learners and we help with all the classroom jobs and treat our classroom environment with respect and share in the responsibility of keeping it clean, tidy and organised.  We are proud of our learning environment, we contribute to the displays and plan and set-up our own areas of provision each half term.

 

In Sycamore class we love learning and enjoy challenging ourselves. We want to become outstanding learners so we know how important it is to try challenging work, not give up when we find it difficult and to come to school everyday so we don’t miss out on any new learning.  We have daily challenges in our areas of provision which we complete daily.  We also have learning logs each week to complete, spellings to learn at home and a daily reading book to read. If we do all of this we will be STRETCHING our minds and experiences!

 

When we challenge ourselves we use ‘The Pit’ to help us talk about our learning. The characters on The Pit are:

Sid the lion – he is stuck in the pit because he gives up when things are hard and doesn’t try.

Leo the lion – he climbs out of the pit by keeping going even when things are tricky. The more he challenges himself, the higher he climbs.

Eddie the Eagle – he has challenged himself and seen lots of success. He is soaring out of the pit.

We all try to be like Leo and Eddie. None of us want to be Sid.

We like having a stimulating and challenging learning environment so we work hard as a team to keep our learning environment ‘exciting’ and exploratory. We have Investors In Pupils reward for working on class targets when we complete all ten penguins on the iceberg we get a reward.  We also gain ‘gem’ points for going the extra mile with our learning.  Each week a star of the week is chosen and they get to take our class mascots home ‘Browny’ the owl or Lucy the Chipmunk along with a class scrap book to write about our weekend adventures.

 

Important things The Year one Team wants us to remember:

 

• Always wear our indoor shoes everyday and keep our pumps in school.
• Make sure you your bring our book bag in every day so we can change your reading book..
• read at home regularly and have our partnership book signed so our book can be changed.
• Bring our indoor PE kit on WEDNESDAY  and our outdoor PE kit on FRIDAY.
• Learn our spelling and complete our homework every week.
• Be in school on time for our Early bird sessions at 8.35-8.50
• PLEASE label all your items of clothing, pumps, coats and water bottles.
